Community Engagement

Community Engagement

Picture
WellStop’s logo in Te Reo Māori, is “Whiria Te Tangata” which translates to “weave, or bring together, the people”.

WellStop aims to work collaboratively with other organisations and people within the community – bringing everyone we can together to support an individual or whānau, or to work together to solve the issues of abuse and violence and create protective, respectful and connected whānau and communities.

The emphasis here is still on the word “together”. Too often organisations refer to WellStop and then close the case, or families and caregivers drop children and young people off to be “fixed up” by WellStop. However, WellStop needs whānau, community and statutory partners to be successful in all the work we do.

WellStop can provide education and training for members of your organisation.

WellStop welcomes any opportunity to talk with other community organisations about ways we could work together.

For more information contact the Regional Manager in your local area or complete a general enquiry form.

Our Partnerships

Trinity Alliance
WellStop has two partner agencies that also provide specialist Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB) services. Safe Network provides services across the upper North Island and STOP covers the South Island.

The three agencies have worked in collaboration for over 20 years and jointly negotiate contracts with government to provide specialist services. We have grown the reach of HSB services to most areas of the country.
Sexual Abuse Prevention Network
WellStop, together with Wellington Sexual Abuse Help Foundation (HELP) and Wellington Rape Crisis (WRC) formed RespectEd Aotearoa which began life as a joint project around sexual abuse prevention.

RespectEd Aotearoa is now an independent charitable trust.  WellStop, WRC and Help are all represented on the RespectEd Aotearoa Board. RespectEd Aotearoa provide the Mates and Dates prevention programme across our region.

Our Collaborations

Additionally, WellStop works in collaboration with a range of other organisations in our wider communities such as:
  • Survivor/victim agencies
  • Care providers
  • Schools and education providers
  • Social Services
  • Iwi based services
  • Forensic Coordination Service (Intellectual Disability)
  • Police
  • Oranga Tamariki - Ministry for Children
  • Ministry of Health
  • Department of Corrections.
