​WellStop operates in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand and our base in Lower Hutt services the greater Wellington region. We have branches in Palmerston North, Napier and Gisborne and New Plymouth. Established in 1993, WellStop is a not-for-profit agency that is funded primarily by contracts with Government Departments such as the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Health, and the Department of Corrections. We are also very appreciative of the support from COGS, NZ Lotteries, charitable trusts, businesses and the community. At any one time WellStop works with around 100 youth and 80 adult clients, with the average treatment programme taking approximately 12 months.

​Why the name WellStop?

​Our name WellStop reflects our focus on two key issues. The first is that the purpose of this organisation is to work to "Stop" sexual abuse. Sexual abuse has been shown to cause huge harm to victims, their families and to our society. The "Well" part of our name reflects that we seek to do more than just help people to stop abusing. We teach skills and information and support them to make good choices. We seek to help people not just to stop abuse but to develop positive lives that are more satisfying and respectful of the needs and rights of others and reflect "Wellness."
